Wix vs Payly: online store pricing compared

Wix is one of the most popular ways to build a website, and it can run an online store too, once you pay for a plan that accepts payments. Payly is an ecommerce platform first, with the store, checkout and hosting free. Here is how they compare for selling online.

The short answer

  • Wix can only take payments on its Core plan or higher: $29 a month billed yearly, or $36 a month billed monthly. Its free plan cannot sell.
  • Payly is free: no monthly fee, no transaction fee and no commission. You pay only PayPal's or Stripe's standard processing fee.
  • Choose Wix if your site is mainly a website with a few products on the side, such as a portfolio, a restaurant or a booking business.
  • Choose Payly if selling products is the point of the site, and you would rather not pay a monthly fee for it.

What Wix costs in 2026

Wix's plans, as published in October 2026, with prices per month:

PlanBilled yearlyBilled monthlyAccepts online payments
Free$0No
Light$17$24No
Core$29$36Yes
Business$39$46Yes
Business Elite$159$172Yes

Yearly plans are paid up front for the year. Wix's free plan shows Wix ads and a wixsite.com address, and a custom domain needs a paid plan. Wix says its prices vary by location; these are its US prices.

The good news on Wix: it does not add its own transaction fee when you use a third-party payment provider such as PayPal. If you use Wix Payments, standard US card payments cost 2.9% + 30¢.

What Payly costs

Payly is free. There is no paid plan and no feature held back, and nothing is added to your orders. Customers pay your own PayPal or Stripe account directly:

  • PayPal: 3.49% + 49¢ for a PayPal Checkout payment in the US.
  • Stripe: 2.9% + 30¢ for a standard US card, the same rate as Wix Payments.

Your store is hosted in your own free Cloudflare account, which comfortably covers most stores, about 5,000 visitors a day. If it ever outgrows that, Cloudflare's paid plan is $5 a month, paid to Cloudflare. Payly stays free either way.

A year of selling, side by side

Payment processing costs about the same on both, so here is the platform cost alone:

Platform cost a year
Payly$0
Wix Core, billed yearly$348
Wix Core, billed monthly$432
Wix Business, billed yearly$468

Where Wix is the better choice

Wix is a website builder at heart, and a very flexible one. If your business is a service, a venue or a portfolio, Wix's apps for bookings, events and restaurants cover things an online store does not. If you sell a few products alongside all of that, Wix's paid plans handle it in one place.

Where Payly is the better choice

If your site exists to sell products, Payly is built around that: product pages, a cart and checkout, stock, shipping zones, sales tax, subscriptions, memberships, customer accounts and sales reports, all included. And because Wix's free plan cannot take a payment, the real comparison is a free Payly store against at least $348 a year on Wix.

Moving from Wix to Payly

Export your products from Wix's Store Products page and upload the file to Payly. You see every product before it is added, and your photos are copied into your own store. Wix does not include digital products in its export, so add those by hand. See Move from Wix for each step, or Switch to Payly for an overview.
